Seeking your views on our updated bylaws

14 October 2024

Bylaws are rules made by Council under the Local Government Act 2002. They are created for the purpose of protecting the public from nuisance, protecting, promoting and maintaining public health and safety; and minimising the potential for offensive behaviour in public places. Bylaws are also made to regulate activities such as solid waste and trade wastes, and parking and control of vehicles and other traffic on roads within the district.

A number of Council’s bylaws that were last updated in 2018 are now due for review.

During October to December we will be seeking your views on proposed amendments to the following bylaws:

  • Trade Waste Bylaw
  • Waste Management and Minimisation Bylaw
  • Traffic and Road Use Bylaw

The draft Trade Waste Bylaw applies to all trade premises where trade wastes are discharged or sought or likely to be discharged to the Wastewater Network operated by the Tararua District Council. This draft bylaw also applies to tankered wastes collected for the purpose of discharge to the Wastewater Network operated by the Tararua District Council.

You will be able to pick up a copy of the statement of proposal, draft bylaw, and submission form from any of Council’s libraries or customer service centres, or visit the website at: https://bit.ly/4gRYdJb

The submission period runs from 14 October 2024 to 16 December 2024.

A Hearing will be held in February 2025 where Council will receive and consider any submissions received in response to this consultation.
