Tararua's Proposed District Plan Review is coming soon

11 November 2024

  • Can I subdivide my property?
  • Can I build another storey on my house?
  • Can I build an additional dwelling on my property?
  • What are the provisions for protecting heritage buildings in our district?
  • What rules are in place to protect the environment or natural habitat?

The answer to these, and many other questions, can be found in the District Plan. Tararua District Council is reviewing their proposed District Plan and they will be undertaking consultation on this draft document soon.

The District Plan is created by Councils, to guide and manage land use and development activities among others, it sets the rules what you can or can’t do with your property. Council will soon be reaching out to get your feedback on this. You will soon be able to have your say on how we manage land use in our district in person, at consultation meetings, or online.

Together with our iwi partners and the wider the community, we want to develop a District Plan that makes sure the Tararua District is fit for the future. Our goal is to ensure that we can manage the effects of growth while planning for the future. It will also ensure the environmental, social and economic needs of each community are provided for.

Council has a legal requirement to review the District Plan every 10 years, due to the Resource Management Act 1991.

Draft consultation on Proposed District Plan dates run from 28 November 2024 through to 1 March 2025.
