Tararua District Mayoral Relief Fund closing this week
25 March 2024
Applications for the Tararua District Mayoral Relief Fund close this Friday, 29th of March. Those still facing financial hardships due to Cyclone Gabrielle need to submit their applications by the end of the week to be eligible for the revised grant amounts.
Individuals are able to claim up to $10,000, with community groups, farmers, businesses (including sole entrepreneurs), and Marae now able to apply for an increased grant of up to $30,000.
For many, getting a picture of the true extent of damage and realising those impacts on budgets, has been a prolonged challenge. With rising costs and high interest rates the hope is that this funding may provide some support to those still facing financial challenges.
Importantly, applicants who have previously received funding can submit new applications to be considered for the increased grant amounts.
The Panel assessing applications will meet early April to consider requests, and at that point final decisions on grant amounts will be made and applicants will be notified of decisions.
The fund, which received over $300,000 in donations has approximately$160,000 remaining. Set up in February2023 in response to the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle on the Tararua District, it was supported by local and nationwide generosity, including significant contributions from neighbouring Councils, acting on behalf of their residents. To date 93 applications have been successful, with over $140,000 being distributed.
