Tararua District Council dog registration fees below average

A comparison of dog registration fees between Tararua District Council and other North Island Councils reveals that dog registration fees within the Tararua District are below average.

Overall averages of 7 Councils, including the Tararua District Council, show that the average registration fee for an “entire” dog are $157.67 but only $150 in the Tararua District Council.  The average fee for a neutered dog are $125.30 but only $120 in the Tararua District.

Not all Councils offer discounts but Tararua District Council offers a variety of  dog registration discounts, such as for neutered dogs, for seniors (over 65) and for owners that have 6 or more dogs.

Last year in the Tararua District there were 6,898 registered dogs.  Of this number 638 were classed under our preferred owner registration category.

Dog registration fees are used by Tararua District Council to promote community safety, encourage responsible dog ownership, respond to dog related reports (there were 596 reports last year), dog ownership education, patrolling public areas, maintaining our National Dog Datatbase records and maintaining our dog pound of which 187 dogs were Impounded last year, all recieving food, water, exercise and veterinary treatment if required.
