Tararua’s District Plan Review is coming soon

Published 10 Jul 2023

What zone is my property located in and what does this mean?

Can I subdivide my property?

Can I build a second dwelling on my property?

What standard do I need to design my vehicle crossing to?

What are the provisions for protecting heritage buildings in our district?

The answer to these, and many other questions, can be found in the District Plan, and Tararua’s District Plan is currently under review.

The District Plan is created by Councils, to guide and manage land use and subdivision activities. The District Plan is essentially a rule book and sets out what you can or can’t do with your property. Council will soon be reaching out to get your ideas on this. You will soon be able to have your say on how we manage land use and subdivision development in our district in person, at consultation meetings, or online. More information on this will be coming soon.

Together with mana whenua and the community, we want to develop a District Plan that makes sure the Tararua District is fit for the future. Our goal is to ensure that we can manage the effects of growth while planning for the future. It will also ensure the environmental, social and economic needs of each community are provided for.

The District Plan Review has just started. Council has a legal requirement to review the District Plan every 10 years, due to the Resource Management Act 1991. We will soon be putting out information in the Bush Telegraph, or online on our Facebook page and website.
