Dannevirke Water Restrictions increase to alternate days immediately
Published 22 Feb 2023
Council will be implementing ‘Alternate Day’ water restrictions for Dannevirke, effective immediately.
Alternate Day Restrictions mean hand-held hoses only on alternate days, i.e. houses with even street numbers on even days and houses with odd street numbers on odd days. Examples of Hand-held hoses include sprinklers, hoses and water blasters.
The Dannevirke water source, the Tamaki River, was heavily impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle, with very high flows, debris and turbidity levels. This means that we have been largely operating off stored water from the impounded water supply. With more rainfall (potentially heavy) forecast for the immediate future, it may mean we will have to operate solely from the impounded supply.
If consumption doesn’t reduce effective immediately ,Council might have to announce higher water restrictions in the near future.
Council would like to extend a sincere thank you to residents of Dannevirke for your cooperation and patience. We appreciate your help to spread the word to those not connected to the internet.
